Surprise singalong nobody saw coming
The brief
The Amex isn’t just Brighton & Hove Albion’s home ground. It’s also home to a set of purpose-built function suites that host everything from conferences to, in this case, a school prom for 300 students. Big room, big crowd, and a stage bigger than most DJs get to play. The school needed a DJ who could bring a rig with the scale to match the room, and a set that could hold 300 seventeen and eighteen year olds all night without ever settling into autopilot.
Good Frequency was brought in to handle the DJ set and the sound.
What we did
This was a bigger rig job by design. A function suite built for a stadium-scale venue needed PA to match, so Good Frequency stepped up the system to fill the room properly rather than pushing a smaller setup past its comfort zone.
The set wasn’t locked in before doors opened. Good Frequency drew from a wide pool of tracks, the bangers you’d expect from any prom (Mr Brightside included), and built the rest of the night around requests, all played as clean edits. With 300 students in the room, that meant constantly reading what was landing and what wasn’t, rather than sticking to a fixed running order.
One request stood out. A younger student asked for Come On Eileen, not a track you’d expect from that age group, and it turned into one of the biggest singalongs of the night.
